Every price, before you sit down

The fee guide, in full

Every price we charge, with the NHS band beside it

Designer Smiles is a private practice in Solihull whose everyday prices start at the NHS band figures: a check-up from £27.90, a small white filling from £76.60, a crown from £332.10. The rest of the guide is below, every line of it, so the figure you see here is the figure you are quoted, in writing, before anything is done.

How much is a check-up?

from £27.90

The NHS Band 1 figure, new patients and routine visits alike; small x-rays are £9.50 each when needed.

How much is a filling?

from £76.60

For a small white filling, the NHS Band 2 figure; medium £170, large £250.

How much is a crown?

from £332.10

For a metal crown, the NHS Band 3 figure; a white crown is from £450 and porcelain or ceramic from £800; the root canal before it, where one is needed, is priced by the tooth below.

How much is a root canal?

from £550

For a front tooth to £850 for a molar; a molar has more canals, so it takes longer.

How much is teeth whitening?

£200

On the current offer, half the usual £400, for custom trays and dentist-strength gel, with top-ups later in the same trays.

How much is Invisalign?

from £999

For Invisalign Express, seven aligners for minor movements; the four fuller plans are priced below, with 0% finance through Tabeo.

The guide, group by group

What each treatment costs here, and what the NHS charges for it

One NHS band charge covers a whole course of treatment, however many items it takes; our prices are per item. So for one filling the two figures match, for several fillings in one go the NHS costs less, and for anything the NHS does not do there is only one column. Where a price says from, the figure for your own tooth is confirmed at the examination.

Paying for treatment

0% finance through Tabeo, and a price in writing first

Treatment can be spread over up to twelve months at 0% through Tabeo, arranged at the consultation once your price is known; the practice offers no interest-bearing option. Every plan of treatment is written down with its figures before you agree to anything, and the figure written down is the figure you pay.

If you are entitled to free NHS treatment, an NHS practice will cost you less for what it covers, and we would rather say so here than have you find out later.

Before you book

The questions people ask about our prices

How much does a dentist cost in Solihull?

At Designer Smiles a check-up is from £27.90, a small white filling from £76.60 and a crown from £332.10, each starting from the NHS band figure; every other price is on this page. Where a price says from, the figure for your own tooth is written down at the examination before anything is done.

Are your prices really the same as the NHS?

The examination, the small white filling and the crown start from the NHS band figures, and you can check those against the bands on our NHS prices page. The difference is that an NHS band charge covers a whole course of treatment while ours are per item, so for several fillings in one go the NHS works out cheaper, and if you are entitled to free NHS treatment the NHS is the right door.

Is the consultation for cosmetic work free?

Yes. A smile design, Invisalign, composite bonding or implant consultation costs nothing; a refundable deposit holds the appointment and is lost only if you do not turn up or cancel within 24 hours.

Can I pay monthly?

Yes. 0% finance through Tabeo is available over up to twelve months on treatment, arranged once your price is known; there is no interest-bearing option. The membership plans below spread the year's examinations and hygiene visits.

What do the membership plans include?

Silver is one examination and one hygiene visit a year; Gold two of each; Platinum two examinations and four hygiene visits. Every plan includes the out-of-hours emergency consultation and 10% off treatment, with the exclusions set out in the scheme handbook. An administration fee of £9.50 is collected with the first payment.

How much is a root canal?

From £550 for a front tooth or canine to £850 for a molar, because a molar has three or four canals and a front tooth one. A crown usually follows on a back tooth, from £332.10.

How much is Invisalign?

From £999 for Invisalign Express, seven aligners for minor movements or a little relapse after a brace. Lite is £2,195, Moderate £2,495, Comprehensive £2,895 and Complex £3,295 on the current offer, each with the consultation, the 3D scan, the reviews, tooth whitening and a set of removable retainers included.

How much is composite bonding?

£200 – £250 a tooth on the current offer, against the standard fee of £400, including the trial smile. Porcelain veneers are £800 a tooth.

How much is an emergency appointment?

£27.90 in practice hours (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm), the same figure as the NHS urgent charge, and £150 outside them. That covers the examination and getting you out of pain; whatever the tooth needs afterwards is priced from this page and agreed with you first.

Do prices change?

This page is the fee guide as it stands today; every figure on the site is drawn from it, so when a price changes it changes everywhere at once. The price you are quoted in writing at your examination is the price you pay.
